The Project
New Block T – This project is located within a school that is more than 100 years old. It involves the design and construction of a new single-storey building at Northmead Public School, featuring:
- 4 new classrooms,
- 2 new special programs,
- 2 learning commons,
- A covered walkway at 1:20 gradient connecting the new building to the existing school,
- Removal of existing demountable buildings to provide additional soft landscape.
Existing Block A – Administration, Staff Room and GLAs – Minor internal alterations and additions.
The Challenges
The continuous accessible path of travel (CAPT) from the allotment boundary was challenging and needed to be addressed from Moxhams Road through minor adjustments to the path of travel between the allotment boundary and the new building.
These works include the relocation of the intercom and associated path works to achieve 1:40 crossfalls where possible and practicable. Existing paths to other sections of the school connect with the main pathway leading to the new block, and changes in level were not feasible in all locations.
The proposed adjustments, including directional signage, were made to ensure access requirements are met and that the transition from the boundary is smooth and accessible for staff, students and visitors.
